Green Carnival Lab: A Journey to Discover Sustainability through Carnival

On February 18 and 25, 2025, two creative and educational workshops titled Green Carnival Lab were held, involving the children of the municipality of Crispiano along with members of the U.N.I.T.A.L.S.I. association, in collaboration with MONTECO S.p.A. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among young people about the value of recycling and sustainability, using waste materials and unused resources to create carnival decorations.

The Workshops

During the workshops, children had the opportunity to learn and experiment with creating Carnival masks using recycled materials, participate in readings about the history of Carnival and recycling, and discover the G&S HUB project. The proposed activities were diverse and engaging, including:

  • Promoting the G&S HUB project, which highlights sustainability and ecological culture.
  • Creating Carnival masks using recycled and waste materials provided by MONTECO S.p.A.
  • Reading a book on recycling and sustainability.
  • Reading a book about the history of Carnival.

Objective of the Workshops

The primary objective of these workshops was to raise awareness among children and adults about the importance of recycling and reusing materials. Through hands-on and stimulating activities, participants had the opportunity to explore the concept of sustainability, learning to transform waste materials into real works of art. They were also encouraged to work together in teams, developing collaborative and creative skills.

Conclusions

The workshops produced positive results from several perspectives:

  • Creativity: The children demonstrated great inventiveness, managing to transform waste materials into new and interesting objects. They learned to use their imagination to create unique and personalized masks.
  • Sustainability: Participants showed a strong interest in understanding the value of recycling and reusing, grasping the message that every object can be reused instead of thrown away.
  • Collaboration: The children worked together, exchanging ideas, advice, and suggestions on how to use the materials. The collaboration among participants made the experience even more engaging, creating a positive learning environment.

In conclusion, the Green Carnival Lab workshops proved to be an educational and fun experience, successfully raising awareness among participants about sustainability and the importance of recycling. In addition to developing manual and artistic skills, the children gained a greater understanding of the impact of their actions on the environment. Thanks to the collaboration with MONTECO S.p.A. and the commitment of the U.N.I.T.A.L.S.I. association, the initiative helped spread the values of sustainability in a creative and impactful way.
