The history of Bassiano certainly begins around the 10th century and starts with a small group of shepherds and farmers forced to take refuge in this place completely covered from the plain, due to the continuous barbarian raids. The first written information about Bassiano dates back to 1169. In a document found in the archive of the collegiate church of Santa Maria in Sermoneta, reference is made to the recovery of the Castrum stolen by deception by a certain Gregorio Leonis from a Lord of Bassiano. Nestled among the Lepini mountains, the ancient village of Bassiano is the highest in the entire province of Latina. Its architecture, in fact, is made up of houses built in a spiral that culminate at the highest point of the hill where the fortress once stood.

Municipality of Crispiano (TA)

Crispiano is an Italian municipality of 13,031 inhabitants in the province of Taranto in Puglia. Crispiano rises around the karst furrow called Vallone, inhabited since prehistoric times, which in the Middle Ages was the site of the Casale Crispiani and the Abbey of Santa Maria di Crispiano. Starting from the sixteenth or seventeenth century, the caves of the Vallone were repopulated in an increasingly stable form, resulting in the initial small inhabited center that developed around the small church of Santa Maria del Vallone. The modern inhabited center developed after the mid-nineteenth century: the first houses arose in the area now called Crispianello, then in the so-called Difesa di Crispiano (now Piazza Madonna della Neve and Corso Vittorio Emanuele III). Urban expansion today affects all the surrounding areas, in particular the Santa Maria Goretti district, located east of the railway line.
